Some people prefer to stay in the same job for the same company; but others prefer to change jobs frequently.
You should use specific reasons to compare the advantages and disadvantages of both sides.
The uncritical view that is prevalent among some people at present is that people can no longer expect a job for life. This conception has its advantages, as far as I can see, especially at a time when new technologies constantly turn up. Therefore, a person will have to pursue several careers during his life, so that he will not become technologically obsolete, with skills that are no longer needed.
Furthermore, large corporations sometimes make it a policy to move their men from one job to another. This is the protean man, having several different lives and having a variety of work experiences. But the disadvantages of this frequent shifting of ones job is expending too much time and energy on renewing ones knowledge and learning new skills, and the difficulty of landing a suitable job, especially in a recession when rivalry for employment becomes severe.
In contrast to those protean men, some people will stay in the same job for the same company. This practice avoids the risk of losing ones accumulated rights, especially during a recession and the risk of joining on a last in, first out basis when they go to a new company. But what they lose is promotion because nowadays promotion is increasingly through career moves between companies.

Over the years, I never thought of my father as being very emotional, and he never was, at least not in front of me. Even though he was 68 years old and only five-foot-nine, while I was six feet and 260 pounds, he seemed huge to me. I always saw him as being that staunch disciplinarian who rarely cracked a smile. My father never told me he loved me when I was a child, and I never held it against him. I think that all I really wanted was for my dad to be proud of me. In my youth, Mom always showered me with “I love you’s” every day. So I really never thought about not hearing it from my dad. I guess deep down I knew that he loved me, he just never said it. Come to think of it, I don’t think I ever told him that I loved him, either. I never really thought about it much until I faced the reality of death.
On November 9th, 1990, I received word that my National Guard unit was being activated for Operation Desert Shield. We would convoy to Fort Ben Harrison, Indiana, and then directly to Saudi Arabia. I had been in the Guard for 10 years and never dreamed that we would be activated for a war, even though I knew it was what we trained for. I went to my father and gave him the news. I could sense he was uneasy about me going. We never discussed it much more, and eight days later I was gone.
I have several close relatives who have been in the military during war time. My father and uncle were in World War II, and two brothers and a sister served in Vietnam. While I was extremely uneasy about leaving my family to serve my country in a war zone, I knew it was what I had to do. I prayed that this would make my father proud of me. My father is very involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization and has always been for a strong military. I was not eligible to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars because I had not been in a war zone—a fact that always made me feel like I didn’t measure up in my father’s eyes. But now here I was, his youngest son, being shipped off to a foreign land 9,000 miles away, to fight a war in a country we had barely heard of before.
On November 17, 1990, our convoy of military vehicles rolled out of rural Greenville, Michigan. The streets were filled with families and well-wishers to see us off. As we approached the edge of town, I looked out the window of my truck and saw my wife, Kim, my children, and Mom and Dad. They were all waving and crying, except for my father. He just stood there, almost like a stone statue. He looked incredibly old at that moment. I don’t know why, he just did.
I was gone for that Thanksgiving and missed our family’s dinner. There was always a crowd, with two of my sisters, their husbands and children, plus my wife and our family. It disturbed me greatly that I couldn’t be there. A few days after Thanksgiving I was able to call my wife, and she told me something that has made me look at my father in a different way ever since.
My wife knew how my father was about his emotions, and I could hear her voice quaver as she spoke to me. She told me that my father recited his usual Thanksgiving prayer. But this time he added one last sentence. As his voice started to crack and a tear ran down his cheek, he said, “Dear Lord, please watch over and guide my son, Rick, with your hand in his time of need as he serves his country, and bring him home to us safely.” At that point he burst into tears. I had never seen my father cry, and when I heard this, I couldn’t help but start to cry myself. My wife asked me what was wrong. After regaining my composure, I said, “I guess my father really does love me.”

Citizens Financial Sells Three Insurance Agencies
Citizens Financial Group (Providence, RI) was a 'Top 25' bank insurance operation last year. That is not likely to be the case in the future.
With its announcement yesterday (March 1) that it was selling three insurance agencies to Hub International Ltd., a Chicago-based insurance brokerage, Citizens (assets: $155 billion) made clear that it sees little future in the full-line insurance brokerage business.
The agencies are Citizens Clair Insurance Group (Norristown, PA); Brewer & Lord (Norwell, MA); and Feitelberg Insurance (Fall River, MA). Collectively they have 19 offices in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Combined revenues were about $45 million last year.
The purchase price for the brokerages was $80 million (inclusive of tangible net worth), payable in cash on closing, as well as an earn-out based on future performance. The insurance agencies will continue to operate independently within the Hub International system.
The transaction was presented by the two companies more as a “strategic alliance” than an outright sale, promising “joint marketing efforts” that would bring a broader array of insurance products and services to Citizen's retail and commercial customers. Citizens Bank will continue to refer clients with insurance needs to the brokerages, presumably, even though they will now be owned by Hub and not Citizens.
“While we achieved both revenue growth and profitability in line with our strategies for the insurance brokerage business, we see a new opportunity to serve our customers by partnering with Hub International as our insurance broker of choice,” said Robert M. Mahoney, vice chairman of Citizens Financial Group. “Our strategic alliance with Hub International will expand our product offerings, locations and expertise, enhancing our competitive position.… We will be able to offer insurance products to corporate customers throughout our 13-state footprint, not just to customers in three local markets.”
In 2003, Citizens Financial, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, purchased The Feitelberg Company, one of the largest insurance agencies in southeastern New England. With combined annual premiums of $325 million, the transaction made Citizens Bank, its operating bank, one of the largest bank/insurance brokerage operations in the United States. Citizens Clair and Brewer & Lord were acquired earlier, coming to Citizens as part of (larger) bank acquisitions.
Citizens, the eighth-largest commercial banking company in the United States ranked by deposits, was a 'Top 25' institution in Who's Who in Bank Insurance (2005 Edition).
The earn-out payments associated with the transaction will in the aggregate be at least $3 million. This will be payable over three years and, at Hub's option, in cash or a combination of cash and Hub common shares. Martin P. Hughes, HUB CEO, indicated that he expects total consideration for the transaction will be within Hub's target multiple of 5-7 times EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization). Closing of the acquisitions is expected to occur in April 2006 and is subject to the satisfaction of regulatory and other customary conditions.

今天休假,动物大侦探粗心猴和细心狗准备去海洋馆玩。
他们刚进海洋馆,粗心猴手里的烟就被一股细细的水柱浇灭了。“是不是公共场所禁止吸烟?”粗心猴抹着脸上的水说,“在大门口摆一块牌子不就行了嘛,突然袭(xi)击,搞得我真狼狈。”
其实粗心猴*时不吸烟的,可是一出现在公众场合,他总得衔一支超级大的雪茄烟——没什么,装酷呗,哪个有名的侦探不吸烟?
没有了雪茄烟,粗心猴嘟唧壤囔地跟着细心狗往前走。可就在这时,细心狗鼻梁上的眼镜也被一股强大的水柱射落在地。
“哇,有没有搞错,公共场所也不允许戴眼镜?”
粗心猴气得大喊大叫:“一定是有人故意捣(dao)乱,我要把他查出米,给他点颜色瞧瞧!”
细心狗和粗心猴来到一个玻璃缸前,看到里面的鱼真小,只有一枚芥(jie)菜籽那么大。
“这是什么鱼呀?”粗心猴问细心狗,*时,细心狗很爱看一些稀奇古怪的书,这个问题,肯定是难不倒他的。
“这叫虎鱼,原产地在菲律宾,当地渔民捉到它们后常常把它们装在一种特制的玻璃瓶里,卖给当地的妇女做耳环。”

本单元大课文的教学,学生主要的难点在于一些句子的朗读,文中的这两个句子孩子比较难读的,let us make a fruit salad。 Look at our fruit salad。课上检查孩子的预习情况,就发现这两句话没有几个孩子会读,所以在课堂上教学这两个句子花了比较多的时间,有些接受能力不是很好的孩子还是不能够自主的进行朗读。在课文的理解上,孩子们的问题不大,通过上单元的cartoon time,孩子们都能在预习阶段就好好的朗读,唯一的问题就是在朗读课文的默写句子时,单复数的朗读不到位,不清楚,这也是很多孩子朗读上的一个弊端,他们不追求朗读的精准性,多了一些随意,所以导致在课文填空或者句子填空时没有能够好好的注意一些细节的地方,这种朗读和背诵课文的习惯应该让孩子们彻底改过来,这也是孩子们学习英语的一种态度的体现。
Cartoon time,fun time,song time。sound time等其他教学内容都是为了培养学生的一种能力和一种英语素养,板块之间的呈现都是以阶段的形式出现,在我们*时的教学中,所花的时间不是很多,一般以学生能读作为教学目标。所以在教学方式上也都是这样。总感觉孩子们对于这些部分的内容学习的兴趣不是很足,对于大课文的教学,单词的教学和句型的教学基本在每课时上都要进行一定的复习和重复,老师总要转化一种方式教学以引起学生学习的兴趣,但是对于这些部分,很多时候我们都是为了教而教,教过就算了,没有什么相应的练习和复习,所以怪不得留给孩子们的印象就是这些板块的教学内容不是重要的,只要能初步朗读就可以了。说实话,对于这些板块的教学目标,我也不知道孩子们究竟要掌握到什么程度。
在课文教学前,我们又一次进行了数词的全面操练,大多数孩子还是能很好的反应数词,这也为新课的教学做了良好的铺垫。在新课教学前,我先进行这样一个练习,一个听力的练习。我出示一些物品和人物,让学生去听,记录下每个人有几样物品,只需要学生反应数词。教师呈现的对话是:what do you have。。。? I have some… How many… do you have? I have…这个练习的目的不仅仅是为了检查学生对于数词的听写能力,也是为新课的教学做准备。在校对答案的时候进行本单元重点句型的复习。这样孩子们就比较容易的接受了新句型。因为这个句型仅仅联系学生的生活实际是比较难进行操练的,所以只有教师创造一些情景,提供一些操练的素材才能让学生很好的`进行操练。所以有时在英语课堂上,我们教师应该善于结合课堂教学的内容进行一些创造,不能仅仅为了所谓的有实际意义,就进行一些没有价值的练习,那样何谈高效课堂呢?

和孩子们在一齐,我既感受到了他们的天真无邪、活泼可爱,同时,对自我的教学也有如下心得:作为教师应学会如何巧妙自然地寓英语学习于生**验之中,把新理念推向课堂班级层面,从而改变学生的学习和思维方式,**学生的创造潜能。为此在教学中我进行了一些尝试,也从中感受到了新课改的实效。
一.采用任务型教学模式
"任务型"课堂教学模式是将英语的教学目标整合到一个或多个具体的活动任务当中,使学生在使用英语完成任务的同时,在不知不觉中学会英语,更主要的是培养学生在完成任务的过程中提高运用英语的潜力。在那里,英语只是一种完成任务的工具、一种技能,而不是仅仅作为一门知识来学习。
"任务型"课堂教学模式,强调让学生的***主要放在怎样利用英语作为交流的**来完成任务,而不只是关心自我所说句子的结构是否正确。这有利于帮忙学生树立自信心,养成良好的学习英语习惯,构成有效的学习策略。学生透过使用正在学习的语言来完成贴近生活的真实任务,能在掌握必须的英语基础知识和基本技能,获得基本英语运用潜力的同时,培养学以致用的意识和初步运用英语进行交际的潜力。
对于一年级的小学英语课堂来讲,"任务型"的课堂教学就是在英语学科的教学目标确定之后,教师需要分析和设计具体任务,完成任务所需要的其他前提知识以及需要采用的教学方法和技巧等,旨在将每一个教学目标拓展为教学活动中可用的具体资料。由于在我的课堂上采用了任务型的教学模式,学生在课堂上都有事可做,并且在做事的过程中体验到了英语的乐趣,英语课也变得丰富多彩,学生从中也体验到了成功的喜悦。
二.创设英语的教学情境
情境教学是有意识的心理活动和无意识的心理活动的**,在认知方面有启迪学生的'可暗示性,从而使学生有意识的和无意识的理解教育输入。即:如临其境,触境生情。如临其境能够使学生感知的过程变得容易,触境生情能够使学生的认知更加牢固。
语言学习是行为习惯的形式,是具有丰富情感的人的一种智力活动,应始终体现以人为本的教育思想。语言潜力的获得不是靠教师教出来的,获得用外语交际的潜力的决定因素是学习者自我,教师不可能把潜力教给学生,是学生自我在教师的引导帮忙下一点一滴的积累起来。
语言的学习最好的方式是在具体的教学情境之中,让学生感知语言,并在感知的过程中自我领会到语言的真谛。尤其对小学低年级的学生而言,教师若能在具体的情境中进行教学,学生自然而然就理解了语言的本质,无需教师过多的解释。
在小学英语教学中,创设情境让学生感知语言,在真实情境中运用语言会收到意想不到到的效果。在课堂中我经常利用多**设备来突破教学重点和难点,把文字、声音、图像等融为一体,创设学生主动参与语言交际活动的情境,让学生走入情境、理解情境、表演情境以此突破语言观。学生在真实的情境中更容易进入主角,课堂气氛也异常活跃。
三.运用现代教育技术
现代教育技术在课堂教学中的运用,突破了以往课堂教学空间与时光的局限,具有信息储存量大、变换速度快、反应灵敏、视听效果好等特点,能使声音和形象、视觉和听觉、语言和情景有效结合,对学生思维潜力的发展起到了较好的作用。当代信息技术的发展使得教育技术走进了校园。多**教学与计算机辅助教学使传统的"粉笔、黑板"的单调的教学**,被越来越多地运用到教师的日常课堂教学中。多**形象活泼、丰富多彩、**促进了学生思维潜力的发展,用计算机创设的与现实生活相仿的情景形象逼真、生动搞笑,能吸引学生用心参与教学活动,提高学习兴趣。
在小学英语课堂教学上,教师恰当运用现代教育技术,利用多**的优势,能够最大限度地激发学生学习的用心性,帮忙他们提高学习英语的兴趣。在小学英语课堂中运用现代教育技术,创设教学情景,能够优化课堂教学,有效地培养学生初步运用英语进行交际的潜力,激活儿童的思维,促进学生综合潜力的提高。
四.使用合理的评价**
德国***斯多惠说过:"教育的艺术不在于传授本领,而在于激励、唤醒、与鼓舞。"这句话充分说明了对学生评价的作用,评价也是一门艺术,好的评价**不仅仅能够满足学生的成功感,而且能够激励学生产生不断向上的精神。学习评价可采用多种形式:形式性评价与终结性评价相结合,个人评与他人、小组评组合、等级与评语相结合,在教学中要灵活的使用。这样,对学生的评价才是全面的、合理的。
激励是教育最基本的功能,成长在充满激励氛围的孩子,会不断进取。我的评语有:Clever boy/girl。 Very good。 Well done。…被赞扬的同学看到全班同学对他拍手喊出这些评语时,都是神采奕奕。我还采用书后盖印儿、发放小礼物等激励**。有时,甚至亲切的对学生笑笑,摸摸他们的小脑袋,都是对他们的一种鼓励。学生在课后会互相评比书后的"印绩"多少,一种你追我赶、不甘落后的局面逐渐构成。

本单元大课文的教学,学生主要的难点在于一些句子的朗读,文中的这两个句子孩子比较难读的,let us make a fruit salad。 Look at our fruit salad。课上检查孩子的预习情况,就发现这两句话没有几个孩子会读,所以在课堂上教学这两个句子花了比较多的时间,有些接受能力不是很好的孩子还是不能够自主的进行朗读。在课文的理解上,孩子们的问题不大,通过上单元的cartoon time,孩子们都能在预习阶段就好好的朗读,唯一的问题就是在朗读课文的默写句子时,单复数的朗读不到位,不清楚,这也是很多孩子朗读上的一个弊端,他们不追求朗读的精准性,多了一些随意,所以导致在课文填空或者句子填空时没有能够好好的注意一些细节的地方,这种朗读和背诵课文的习惯应该让孩子们彻底改过来,这也是孩子们学习英语的一种态度的体现。
Cartoon time,fun time,song time。sound time等其他教学内容都是为了培养学生的一种能力和一种英语素养,板块之间的呈现都是以阶段的形式出现,在我们*时的教学中,所花的时间不是很多,一般以学生能读作为教学目标。所以在教学方式上也都是这样。总感觉孩子们对于这些部分的内容学习的兴趣不是很足,对于大课文的教学,单词的教学和句型的教学基本在每课时上都要进行一定的复习和重复,老师总要转化一种方式教学以引起学生学习的兴趣,但是对于这些部分,很多时候我们都是为了教而教,教过就算了,没有什么相应的练习和复习,所以怪不得留给孩子们的印象就是这些板块的教学内容不是重要的,只要能初步朗读就可以了。说实话,对于这些板块的教学目标,我也不知道孩子们究竟要掌握到什么程度。
在课文教学前,我们又一次进行了数词的全面操练,大多数孩子还是能很好的反应数词,这也为新课的教学做了良好的铺垫。在新课教学前,我先进行这样一个练习,一个听力的练习。我出示一些物品和人物,让学生去听,记录下每个人有几样物品,只需要学生反应数词。教师呈现的对话是:what do you have。。。? I have some… How many… do you have? I have…这个练习的目的不仅仅是为了检查学生对于数词的听写能力,也是为新课的教学做准备。在校对答案的时候进行本单元重点句型的复习。这样孩子们就比较容易的接受了新句型。因为这个句型仅仅联系学生的生活实际是比较难进行操练的,所以只有教师创造一些情景,提供一些操练的素材才能让学生很好的进行操练。所以有时在英语课堂上,我们教师应该善于结合课堂教学的内容进行一些创造,不能仅仅为了所谓的有实际意义,就进行一些没有价值的练习,那样何谈高效课堂呢?

【Grandpa Wen bows out】
FOR HIS tenth and final time, China’s outgoing prime minister, Wen Jiabao, on March 5th rose to speak at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People at the opening of the annual plenary session of the National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s parliament. As he did on the previous nine occasions, Mr Wen (pictured) delivered a full reading of his lengthy “government work report,” to nearly 3,000 delegates, outlining achievements of the year past and priorities for the future.
Among his key announcements were several important economic targets for this year. China, he said, would aim for economic growth of 7.5% while limiting inflation to “around” 3.5% and adding more than 9m urban jobs.
In a separate budget report, the government called for a 10.7% increase in defense spending to 720 billion yuan ($115.7 billion) in 2013. The rise comes at a time of persistent tension with Japan and other neighbours, but at a press conference a senior official repudiated the suggestion from one Japanese reporter that the move signalled an “aggressive” foreign policy.
"We strengthen our defence forces to safeguard ourselves, security and peace, instead of threatening other countries," said Fu Ying, who is China’s vice foreign minister and also the spokesperson for this year’s NPC session.
By the time this year’s session ends, on March 17th, the defence increase will almost certainly have been approved, together with the rest of the budget report, several other government reports (including Mr Wen's), and nominees for many top government posts. Though it calls itself a legislature and votes on motions, the NPC has never rejected anything put before it. Notwithstanding the important work the NPC does outside of the plenary sessions, the annual meeting remains heavily stage-managed and is far from shaking free of its well-deserved label as a rubber-stamp.
It is likewise nearly certain that Mr Wen will be replaced at the end of this session by Li Keqiang, currently deputy prime minister; and that outgoing president Hu Jintao will be replaced by Xi ******g, who has already taken over as the top leader of the Communist Party and currently holds the state position of vice-president. These are the final touches on the contentious leadership transition that unfolded over the course of last year and culminated in November, at China’s 18th Communist Party Congress.
During his ten years as premier, Mr Wen's cultivated his image as an avuncular figure full of concern for the common people, earning for himself the nickname "Grandpa Wen." In his final work report, Mr Wen was frank and forthcoming about many of the serious problems the new leadership duo is about to inherit.
“We are keenly aware that we still face many difficulties and problems,” Mr Wen said, citing corruption, environmental degradation, inequality, unbalanced growth and social tension. His government's final budget included increased spending on health care, social security and environmental protection. Many in China will surely welcome this, even if they remain unimpressed with the shopworn prescriptions he proposed for China's systemic ills.
"We should unwaveringly combat corruption, strengthen political integrity... and ensure that officials are honest, government is clean and political affairs are handled with integrity," he said. That may be hard to argue with. But it will also be hard to implement.

MANILA, Aug. 23 -- The Philippine economy is expected to have grown by 5.9 to 6.9 percent in the second quarter on back of the global recovery and election related spending, a senior official said Monday.
The second quarter GDP growth was "fostered by the recovery of the global economy which fueled strong growth in international trade," Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Cayetano Paderanga said in a press briefing.
He said that improved consumer and investor confidence, the peaceful of the national elections in May and election-related spending also contributed to the GDP growth. But the El Nino- induced dry spell, which reduced farm production, limited the GDP expansion.
Paderanga said this will put the GDP growth in the first half at 7 percent. In the first quarter, Philippine GDP expanded at 7.3 percent.
Paderanga is optimistic that the economy will continue to grow in the next few months. He said that increased investments and exports will support growth, pushing the GDP to expand beyond the 5 to 6 percent estimate for the full year.

In some ways, the United States has made some progress. Fires no longer destroy 18,000 buildings as they did in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, or kill half a town of 2,400 people, as they did the same night in Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Other than the Beverly Hill Supper Club fire in Kentucky in 1977, it has been four decades since more than 100 Americans died in a fire.
But even with such successes, the United States still has one of the worst fire death rates in the world. Safety experts say the problem is neither money nor technology, but the indifference(无所谓) of a country that just will not take fires seriously enough.
American fire departments are some of the world's fastest and best-equipped. They have to be. The United States has twice Japan's population, and 40 times as many fires. It spends far less on preventing fires than on fighting them. And American fire -safety lessons are aimed almost entirely at children, who die in large numbers in fires but who, against popular beliefs, start very few of them.
Experts say the error is an opinion that fires are not really anyone's fault. That is not so in other countries, where both public education and the law treat fires as either a personal failing or a crime(罪行). Japan has many wood houses; of the 48 fires in world history that burned more than 10,000 buildings, Japan has had 27. Punishment for causing a big fire can be as severe as life imprisonment.
In the United States, most education dollars are spent in elementary schools. But, the lessons are aimed at too limited a number of people; just 9 percent of all fire deaths are caused by children playing with matches.

A Existing management research does not tell us much about how to find and develop high-flyers, those people who have the potential to reach the top of an organisation. As a result, organisations are left to formulate their own systems. A more effective overall policy for developing future leaders is needed, which is why the London Business School has launched the Tomorrow’s Leaders Research Group (TLRG). The group contains representatives from 20 firms, and meets regularly to discuss the leadership development of the organisations’ high-flyers.
B TLRG recognises just how significant line managers are in the process of leadership development. Unfortunately, with today’s flat organisations, where managers have functional as well as managerial responsibilities, people development all too often falls victim to heavy workloads. One manager in the research group was unconvinced by the logic of sending his best people away on development courses, ’only to see them poached by another department or, worse still, another firm’. This fear of losing high-flyers runs deep in the organisations that make up the research group.
C TLRG argues that the task of management is not necessarily about employee retention, but about creating ’attraction centres’. ’We must help line managers to realise that if their companies are known as ones that develop their people, they will have a greater appeal to high-flyers,’ said one advisor. Furthermore, selecting people for, say, a leadership development programme is a sign of commitment from management to an individual. Loyalty can then be more easily demanded in return.
D TLRG has concluded that a company’s HR specialists need to take action and engage with line managers individually about their role in the development of high-flyers. Indeed, in order to benefit fully from training high-flyers as the senior managers of the future, firms must actually address the development of all managers who will be supporting the high-flyers. Without this, managers will not be in a position to give appropriate advice. And when eventually the high-flyers do move on, new ones will be needed to replace them. The next challenge will be to find a new generation of high-flyers.
